Moot Court Competition

The NMMU Moot Court competition is an event of great importance in the calendar of the Law Faculty. Students participating in the event are given the opportunity not only to test their ability in the field of trial advocacy, but also to gain valuable practical experience in mastering fundamental legal skills in a litigation environment.
Nine teams of two students participated in the 2006 competition. Each team had to present their case, either as plaintiffs or defendants, based on a set of facts drawn up by senior staff members of the Faculty. The competition was preceded by a number of workshops aimed at preparing students for the actual hearings. NMMU alumnus, Advocate Gerald Farber SC, contributed to this project in his personal capacity and successfully initiated the competition in 2003.
